Shifting & Breezing

Graduate Individual Project

03.png

Shifting and Breezing is an experimental project intended to make a kinetic pavilion in the public space that can be well-adjusted to the changing climate conditions. The shape-shifting facade not only does control the wind passing through the building but also helps organize variations of the relationship between inside and outside space, making the pavilion transformable from an indoor space to a semi-indoor area, and with the collapsable-turntable amphitheater; the number of variations is increased with more flexibility of the program inside the building. To help provide a more substantial relationship in the community, the kinetic ceiling acts as a boundary identifier for various functions in the indoor area, such as community market, gathering space, and learning space.

As climate change continues to get worse and worse every year, the weather history data becomes outdated, making the climate design unsustainable. This makes people suffer from unexpected climate conditions such as heat waves, especially the low-income community, which don't have the purchasing power to survive like the middle class or the rich. This experimental project intends to make architecture that provides shelter for these people and can be adapted to a number of weather conditions while creating a stronger community simultaneously.
